This coin commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the introduction of the euro as a currency in 1999. The same design was shared by all eurozone countries in 2009, each adding their own national inscription. Austria’s version identifies itself with “Republik Österreich” rather than a portrait or landmark.
