Obverse (shown) — features the Brandenburg Gate with jubilant crowds celebrating in front of it. The text “WIR SIND EIN VOLK” (“We are one people” — the famous chant of 1989 protesters) curves around the design. Inscriptions: “25 JAHRE DEUTSCHE EINHEIT” (25 Years of German Unity) and year “2015”. Mint mark “D” and designer’s initials “BW” are visible.
Reverse (standard EU side) — features the numeral “2 EURO” with the EU map and 12 stars.
This coin marks the 25th anniversary of German Reunification on 3 October 1990, when East and West Germany were officially united after the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. The phrase “Wir sind ein Volk” became the defining slogan of the peaceful revolution in East Germany. The Brandenburg Gate, long a symbol of division, became the central icon of reunification celebrations.
