Obverse (shown) — features a globe surrounded by symbols of modern European life: buildings, a wind turbine, a ship, a train, and other infrastructure elements, all connected around the euro symbol. Inscriptions: “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” on the inner ring and dates “2002–2012” at the bottom.
Reverse (standard EU side) — features the numeral “2 EURO” with the EU map and 12 stars.
This coin commemorates the 10th anniversary of euro banknotes and coins entering circulation on 1 January 2002. The shared design — used by all eurozone countries in 2012 — depicts everyday life powered by the euro economy: transport, energy, housing and trade radiating from a central globe. Austria’s version adds “Republik Österreich” as the national identifier.
