Features the traditional Irish harp (the Cláirseach), the national symbol of Ireland. Inscriptions: the word “ÉIRE” (meaning Ireland in the Irish language) is written along the top edge of the inner core, and the year “2005” curves along the bottom. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the European Union distributed evenly around the edge.
Reverse (standard EU side) — features the numeral “2 EURO” with the EU map and 12 stars.
Unlike many of the previously shown coins, this is not a limited commemorative edition, but rather Ireland’s standard circulation national design. Designed by Jarlath Hayes, the Brian Boru harp design is used across all denominations of Irish euro coins (from 1 cent to 2 euro), maintaining a legacy that stretches back to early Irish Free State coinage.
