This coin represents Finland’s standard circulation national design for the 1-euro denomination. The whooper swan is the national bird of Finland, making this depiction a deeply patriotic motif. Interestingly, this design was adapted from a submission created by Pertti Mäkinen for a competition held to design a commemorative coin to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Finland’s independence.
