2 Euro Commemorative, Netherlands 2007

Obverse (shown) β€” features an open book (the Treaty of Rome) surrounded by ribbons forming a star, with “EUROPA” inscribed on a band across the book. The inscriptions read “VERDRAG VAN ROME / 50 JAAR” (Treaty of Rome / 50 Years) at the top and “KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN” (Kingdom of the Netherlands) at the bottom. Mint marks “A” and “M” flank the year “2007”.

Reverse (standard EU side) β€” features the numeral “2 EURO” with the EU map and 12 stars.


About the Treaty of Rome

Signed on 25 March 1957, the Treaty of Rome established the European Economic Community (EEC), the foundation of today’s European Union. This design was used by all EU member states in 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary.
