This is France’s redesigned standard circulation 2 euro coin, introduced in 2022 with a new reverse design replacing the older Marianne-based design used since 1999. The oak tree symbolizes strength, longevity and the French Republic, while the geometric star frame echoes the EU’s values of unity. The national motto “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” — Liberty, Equality, Fraternity — has been France’s guiding principle since the Revolution of 1789.
