Obverse (shown) — features St. Michael’s Church (Michaeliskirche) in Hildesheim, a masterpiece of Ottonian Romanesque architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The inscription “NIEDERSACHSEN” appears at the bottom, year “2014” at the top, mint mark “D” visible on both left side and bottom.

Reverse (standard EU side) — features the numeral “2 EURO” with the EU map and 12 stars.
St. Michael’s Church in Hildesheim, built between 1010–1022, is a masterpiece of Ottonian Romanesque architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. On this particular coin, the mint mark “D” (Munich) is visible both to the left of the image and at the bottom of the outer ring.
